PET THERAPY – SHARING THE LOVE OF YOUR PET WITH OTHERS

Shorty and I are registered Delta Society Pet Partners. We enjoy visiting Mansfield Nursing Center, The Plaza in Mansfield Nursing and Rehabilitation, Thelma Jones Elementary and Imogene Gideon Elementary School. At the nursing facilities we greet the residents in the living room stopping to visit with them and to pet Shorty. We hear many great stories. We also visit the gym and join in on their physical therapy letting them pet and/or brush Shorty. Even the therapists enjoy a little loving too. We make rounds to the rooms where they residents are confined to their bed.  The smiles and joy instantly come to their faces. For some of these residents Shorty and I are the only visitors they have. At the schools we visit the special needs classes and work with the students and their teachers with special techniques that help them function better and enjoy Shorty.

Maria is so happy to have a visit from Shorty. We have been visiting Maria for 6 years. She is  happy lady who loves pet therapy visits.

READING EDUCATION ASSISTANCE DOGS

 We are also registered with the R.E.A.D. program. (Reading Education Assistant Dogs). We visit the school library at Imogene Gideon School where two-three students read to Shorty for fifteen minute sessions. The children love reading to Shorty and it takes their mind off of being shy and embarrassed to read aloud.  It is a lot of fun for all of us. In addition we do R.E.A.D. special events at the public libraries in Mansfield and Arlington.
